I would like to thank you for visiting DiversityFIRST™. I welcome you to explore the site to learn more about our efforts to tackle issues of workplace inequality. I first coined the word DiversityFIRST™ in the Spring of 2000 with the hopes of one day creating an organization that would actively address issues of workplace inequality that are, unfortunately, so prevalent in workplaces today. Though it has taken 12 years of hard work and determination, I am very proud that DiversityFIRST™ has come to fruition. Growing up I was always drawn to advertisements for things that were "free." I would nudge my father and say "Dad, can I have that. It’s free!" My father would smile and say, "There’s nothing free. Everything has a cost." And my father was right; there is a cost to everything, even things that are free. Advocating for voiceless workers and promoting diversity in the workplace is going to be taxing and take time, money and effort on behalf of those dedicated to the cause. But nothing comes easy that’s worth having, and I believe diversity in the workplace is worth its weight in gold. And that is why I invite I chose not to ignore the obvious. Diversity will be a crucial part of doing business in the future; companies can either insulate themselves from diversity and lag behind or they can embrace diversity and thrive. It is as simple as that. Diversity is a choice, and it is time for companies to say "Count me in!" Sincerely,
