March 29, 2010
by: Alice Wang
High school senior Alice Wang has been working with us this semester as part of a mentorship program at her school. She recently travelled to Chicago with the Clear Lake High School Orchestra for an invitation-only performance at Symphony Center, home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Along the way, she was able to visit many other famous attractions such as The Museum of Science and Industry, The Art Institute of Chicago, and Millennium Park. Enjoy the pictures and be sure to listen for Alice on The Front Row in the upcoming months!

After a little investigation, I found out that many of these pieces were actually created and donated by Gallery 37/After School Matters, a non-profit organization in Chicago that provides teens with valuable job skills and exposure to careers in the arts, the sciences, and sports as well as in the technological and literary fields. Proudly claiming a membership of 19,000 children, the award-winning Gallery 37 program promotes the involvement of city students in the visual, performing, culinary, and media arts. Judging from benches and windows they painted, I can safely say that there are some very talented art students in Chicago!
