Responsive Email Design
Introduction
If you read your email on a daily basis through your Internet-enabled phone your experiences might have ranged from amazing to awful. While some email newsletters may look outstanding in your inbox on a desktop or laptop, when squeezed onto a small screen it can become unusable, with small fonts, narrow columns, and worse case scenario, the entire layout being broken.
In order to solve this, emails must be optimized for mobile. Today, this is no longer just an option, but a necessity and the best way to accomplish this is through Responsive Email Design.
What is Responsive Email Design
Responsive email design is a set of techniques used to make an email layout readable and usable on any mobile device, which it’s displayed on. It makes it much easier for the user to engage with the content and respond to it. Attributes of responsive email design include:
- Content is presented in one column
- No pinch and zoom required
- Font sizes are increased
- Links are thumb friendly buttons
- No horizontal scrolling
- Easy-to-use fields for input (using drop down lists)
